Checkout and Fine Policies
The Library is a material center and its primary purpose is to help students and teachers. All books and materials belong to everyone; therefore, all must share these materials. The Library Media Specialist (LMS) is tasked with providing equal service to all students and teachers, and she hopes that everyone will use the library often.
Circulation Services are available from 7:45 AM to 2:45 PM. Students may check out books and reference materials as needed. There are also printing services available at the circulation desk.
Staff may check out materials for a month at a time, including reference materials, mobile devices for classes, and audio/visual equipment.
Check Out
A WPHS Valid Student ID # is required to check out Library materials and to use the Computer Centers.
The library is open Monday through Friday, 7:12 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. Books may be checked out and returned during break, before and after school, and during the class periods.
To check out a book, the student must present the book at the circulation desk so that it may be scanned.
All books--except reference books, classroom collections, and magazines--may be checked out for two weeks. At the end of two weeks, a book may be renewed by bringing the book back to the library to be scanned again.
A fine of five cents ($.05) per school day for each overdue book will be charged. The maximum fine for each book will be no greater than the cost of the book.
A student who has an overdue book may not check out another book until the overdue book is returned.
Students must pay for any lost or damaged book. When a student pays for the book, the fine is cancelled.
Magazines may only be used in the library.
A student may come to the library with a teacher who has reserved the library. The classroom teacher is still in charge of the student, as in the regular classroom. A student cannot leave the library unless the student has permission from the classroom teacher.
A student coming without a classroom teacher must leave a written pass from the classroom teacher on the circulation desk. The pass must contain the student's name, the date, the time, and the classroom teacher's signature. The student may not leave the library without written permission from the librarian.
Renewal
Reserve items and laptops cannot be renewed. Items in the circulating collection may be renewed twice if no one has placed a hold on the item. If an item must be returned because the renewals have been exhausted, then the patron must wait at least 24 hours before checking it out again.
You may renew in person only, you must bring the materials to the library to renew.
Return
Books must be returned to the WPHS library.
During hours the library is closed, books can be turned in to your teacher or the front office.
Scheduling
Computers
Library Services offers desktop computer stations for online browsing and research. In addition, wireless laptops are available for checkout for in-library use.
Students have to up-to-date computer applications and equipment. These computing resources are provided for WPHS students to complete course assignments, write papers, conduct research, use specialized course software, search the Internet and communicate with their instructors and classmates using email.
Laptop/Chromebooks
The typical use of the Library Research Stations include accessing the Library Catalog and conducting online research. * Subject to availability. WPHS is a one to one school, so every student has access to a Chromebook purchased by CCBOE. The yearly cost of Chromebooks is $40 per year.
